Skincare 101: How to Determine Your Skin Type

Since there are a gazillion skincare products on the market, you can never be too sure about the types of product that belong on your skin. You can narrow down the perfect product for your skin by determining your skin type. This is important because some formulas are too strong or too weak to do your skin any justice. Don't worry - You will be able to determine your skin type by the dryness or oiliness of your skin. So, let's get started.

Which Skin Type Are You?
There are four skin types that we will explore, and they are: Oily Skin, Dry Skin, Normal Skin, and Combination Skin.

If you're staring the mirror down right now attempting to figure it out with the naked eye, here's a simple way to determine your skin type
1. First, wash your face and let it dry for the next 30 minutes so your skin can get into its 'natural  flow' again.
2. After 30 minutes passes, get a thin sheet of toilet paper or facial tissue to dab on key areas of your face. If you have blotter sheets or end papers for hair rollers, these will be awesome as well!
3. Take your sheets and press them to your forehead, nose, cheeks, and your chin.
4. Observe your tissues and compare below.

Your tissues have the majority of oily marks/circles? You have oily skin. You probably already knew this since oily skin tends to shine more. Keeping your face and pores clog-free is super important so that you don't have to battle acne. Also, go for oil-free products and moisturizers because your oil glands are already overactive.

Nothing on the tissue? You have dry skin. Your skin doesn't have any moisture so it's texture may be a bit rough. You want to keep a good anti-aging skin care regimen as this skin type is often prone to wrinkles and lines. Find a moisturizing cream that is effecting at sealing the moisture of your skin.

Not too dry ... Not too oily? You have normal skin and have a good balance between the water/oil in your face. This skin type is a bit more elastic and flexible. In appearance, wrinkles are not too visible in your face compared to those with dry skin. Want to keep it this way? Adopt a great skincare regimen with a good moisturizer and protect yourself while out in the sun as well.

Your tissues oily marks in your T-Zone? You more than likely have combination skin, which is some dry areas and some oily skin areas. If you didn't know, your forehead, nose, and chin.create your 'T-Zone". You'll find that your T-Zone is usually oily so you can use oil-free treatments on those areas. Be sure to keep some moisturizer on hand for the dry areas, too. Don't forget that you're a combo!

Hopefully, this small test has helped you narrow down your  product selection for your skincare. As always, It's recommended to check with your dermatologist or beauty counter representative to determine if certain products are good for your skin.
